For many people, the hardest part of strength training is not the workout itself. It is knowing where to begin: which equipment to use, how heavy to lift, what good technique feels like and how to progress safely without feeling lost on the gym floor.
The Empower Fitness Strength Clinic was created to answer those questions. Across two coached sessions each week, participants learn the foundations of strength training in a supportive small-group environment. The aim is not simply to finish a workout, but to leave with the technique, knowledge and confidence to keep training.
Throughout the clinic, participants practise the key movement patterns behind an effective strength programme: squatting, hinging, lunging, pushing, pulling, carrying and core control. Sessions use resistance machines, dumbbells, barbells, benches, cables and TRX so participants become familiar with different areas of the gym.
Every exercise can be adjusted. Easier options help people learn safely, while more challenging variations allow them to progress as their strength improves. Technique comes first, but participants are also encouraged to move beyond weights that feel merely comfortable and learn what productive strength work should feel like.
Participants work in pairs using a “You Go, I Go” format. While one person completes a set, their partner rests, observes and prepares for their next turn. This creates appropriate recovery, keeps the session organised and allows regular coaching, technique corrections and individual exercise adjustments.
Sets, repetitions and weights are recorded so progress is visible. Training twice a week gives participants enough practice to reinforce new skills, build momentum and gradually increase the challenge.
“It was a great way to become familiar with the equipment and different techniques, and to build confidence.”
“The buddy system was a real positive. Working with a partner made the sessions supportive and gave us the right amount of rest between sets.”
“I liked being able to track the exercises, weights and repetitions. It made it easier to see progress over the six weeks.”
The August clinic is currently full, but registrations of interest are open for the final clinic of 2026, beginning Monday 12 October. This will be an eight-week block, with one-hour sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:15 am.
